The Bawal 84, a group of representatives of 84 villages in Bawal sub-division here, today convened a panchayat at Mohanpur village over the police’s failure in tracing a 13-year-old girl who went missing on June 27.
The panchayat, presided over by Sumer Jaildar, acting president of the Bawal 84, sought residents’ support to strengthen the ongoing agitation against the alleged police inaction. Members of the Sangharsh Samiti have been sitting on a dharna outside the residence of PWD Engineering Minister Banwari Lal in Bawal town for the past three weeks.
Activists of Dalit Sena led by its state general secretary Ram Kishan Rewariya present at the panchayat announced to observe the Rewari bandh on November 1 to register their protest against the police failure in tracing the girl. The panchayat also endorsed the Dalit Sena’s call for the Rewari bandh.
“The state crime branch is investigating the case with the help of members of the Sangharsh Samiti which is spearheading the stir that would continue until the recovery of the girl,” said Ram Kishan Mehlawat, leader of the samiti.
He also said eight residents of Mohanpur village had been inducted into the Sangarsh Samiti.
