Army chief General Bipin Rawat on Monday said Army was in a stage of transformation.

“Today, we have to transform or we will perish,” he said while addressing the ‘defence attaches’ conclave’ organised by Bharat Shakti, a defence web portal, here.

The General also addressed members of the industry who were present at the conclave saying we needed to make weapons on our own as he spoke about transformation.

He said the Border Roads Organisation needed niche-tunnelling technology, especially in cold climates and collaboration would help.

Later, talking to the media, he said there was no evidence of sniper rifles being used in the Kashmir Valley.

At the conclave, Ajay Kumar, secretary, defence production, pointed out that despite being the biggest importer of weapons, India made helicopters, tanks and submarines.

He cited the success story of Japanese automobile maker Suzuki in India and asked defence attaches to look at the possibility of investing in defence industrial corridors in UP and Tamil Nadu.
