Chandigarh, December 28: In the first phase, 456 street vendors were allotted sites through the draw of lots held at the MC office today.
The draw was conducted for 23 vending zones in Sector 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 21, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30, 31, 33, 35, 36, 38, 39, 41 and 42.
The draw was held for the Non-Essential Service Providers category. Dr Saurabh Mishra, MC Additional Commissioner and SDM (South), IS Narang, Naib Tehsildar-cum-Executive Magistrate, UT, Devender Babla, councillor, Ram Pal, VN Sharma, Sangita Vardhan, Sita Ram and town vending committee members were present as observers for the draw of lots. Tilak Raj, Additional Commissioner, supervised the draw.
KK Yadav, MC Commissioner, said the corporation had adopted a transparent mechanism for the draw of lots. The list of eligible street vendors was prepared from the e-Sampark portal in line with the decision of the town vending committee.
He said the town vending committee would address concerns relating to street vending. He said a grievance redressal committee, headed by a Civil Judge, was in the process of being notified by the Chandigarh Administration.
He said the enforcement wing would monitor encroachments and take action as per the Street Vending Bylaws-2018 against unauthorised vendors. The draw of lots for sites in Sector 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 56, IT Park, Dhanas, and Maloya will be held tomorrow.
The draw of lots for vending sites in Sector 19, 22, 32, 40, Mani Majra, Mauli Jagran and Dadu Majra will be held on December 30.
