Kisan Mela, exhibition held at Samba

SAMBA, DECEMBER 29: Department of Agriculture, Samba today organized a one-day Kisan Mela-cum-exhibition under ‘Support to State Extension Reforms Mission on Agriculture Extension’ here at KVK.

The Mela and exhibition was inaugurated by Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma. Chairman Municipal Committee Samba, Pawan Kumar, Director Agriculture Jammu, H.K.Razdan, Director Command Area Development Jammu, S. Jatinder Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Samba, Narender Mishra, and other concerned.

The dignitaries visited various stalls highlighting the new technologies and achievements in the agriculture and allied activities and inspected the live samples displayed by the farmers.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharma said the aim of organizing such melas is to sensitize the farmers about new technologies, high yielding varieties of seeds and machinery being introduced in the agriculture to increase productivity and to facilitate the marketing exposure to the agriculture produce of the state.

The MP said the purpose of introduction of new technologies and good agriculture practices is to make the life of a farmer easy. He maintained that agricultural marketing reforms are being undertaken with special stress on the formation of farmer-producer organizations (FPOs) for value addition and increasing income.

He said more such melas/exhibitions should be organized to acquaint the farmers about the latest techniques being used in the farming sector and reiterated that such events open a pathway for farmers to get information about scientific knowledge, modern technology and productivity.

Director Agriculture Jammu impressed upon the farming community to interact with the Farm Scientists, Experts and Extension functionaries to get up to date methodology in the cultivation of crops on scientific lines.

Earlier, Narender Misra Chief Agriculture Officer, Samba presented a keynote address and details of schemes taken up by the department of agriculture for promotion of the agriculture sector in the district.

Others who were present include Chief Horticulture Officer Samba, Scientists from SKUAST-J/KVK Samba, District Heads of allied departments and Sub Divisional/Block/Circle level officers of Agriculture and other allied departments.
