The Chandigarh Police issued challans to 2,739 traffic violators and impounded 216 vehicles while observing zero tolerance day on Thursday. The drive began at 8 am and continued till 8 pm.
Police officials said while traffic cops issued 1,519 challans and impounded 115 vehicles, those from police stations and other units issued 1,220 challans and impounded 101 vehicles.
The police had laid two special nakas to check speeding and a naka to catch motorists jumping red light. Besides, various check points were set up.
