Reeling under ‘severe’ air quality conditions, the Gurugram administration has announced a ban on all construction activity and operation of hot-mix plants and stone crushers from November 1 to 10.

The ban comes in the wake of the Central Pollution Control Board enforcing the Graded Response Action Plan, which mandates a ban as an immediate measure in case of depleting air quality. Industries dependent on coal and biomass have also been asked to shut down between November 4 and 10.

“There would be a blanket ban on all projects, big or small. Patrol teams will ensure compliance. It may be extended if the air quality does not improve over the next few days,” Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said. The ban is expected to affect over 400 projects in the city and hit realtors working on projects.

“The ban would mean a loss of crores. It would also affect the daily-wage labourers. The poor air quality is not because of us, but as a result of farm fires and vehicular emmissions,” said Vineet Punia, a housing project owner.
