Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday said that Child Welfare Committee Srinagar has taken note of the incident in which a father attempted to bury an infant born with a deformity alive yesterday.
Secretary Social Welfare Department Dr Farooq Lone said the government will take care of the child, news agency reported.
“The Child Welfare Committee in Srinagar has taken cognizance of (the incident). The child is presently undergoing treatment at GB Pant Hospital,” he said, according to the report.
A resident of Shopian district of south Kashmir on Tuesday tried to bury his baby alive in but was caught red-handed by the locals.
The police said people in the old city of Nowhatta caught a person identified as Manzoor Hussain Banyari of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district while he was trying to bury his child who was alive.
“People handed over the accused to the police station in Nowhatta. He stated that the infant was suffering from some congenital disease for which he did not have the means to treat the child,” a police official said.
The accused was arrested and a case was registered against him. He was later released on bail, the police said.
Medical Superintendent of GB Panth Hospital, Dr Kanwarjit Singh, said the boy is suffering from Meningoencephalocele wherein part of the brain matter extends out of the skull, reported DNA newspaper.
