As a mark of protest, PHE employees lock-down offices’ in Kashmir, seek release of pending wages

Srinagar: The Public Health Engineering (PHE) employees on Tuesday lock-down all the offices in Kashmir division as a mark of protest till April 6.

Talking to media, scores of the employees’ posted at sub-division Awantipora said that all the division and sub-division offices in north and south Kashmir have been locked as a mark of protest to full fill the long pending demands of PHE employees.

The demands include the release of pending wages, regularization of the services and amendment in SRO 520.

However, the water supply has not been stopped yet, but the employees’ threatened the lockdown of the water supply as well if their demands are not fulfilled within the next four days. Meanwhile, the offices in south Kashmir include Pampore, Shopian Bijbehara, Qazigund, Pulwama, and Civil and Mechanical- the two divisions of Awantipora are locked now.

The lockdown call has been supported by the need base workers, Joint Employees association and ITI factions of the department as well.

We all are without salaries from past eight to eighteen months and despite repeated pleas government is yet to take any decision on it,” one of the employees told media over the phone.

“If our demands are not met within the given time, we all will hit the streets and lock down the water supplies as well,” he added.
