Chandigarh, May 1: Punjab minister and Congress star campaigner Navjot Singh Sidhu today criticised the BJP government for adopting ‘dictatorial’ attitude and “attempting to sabotage” institutions such as the CBI and the judiciary.
The Congress leader was addressing a rally in Sector 22 in support of party candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal.Making a good use of humour, sarcasm, poetry and one-liners, Sidhu urged the people to vote for Bansal.
He asked the gathering to raise slogans like ‘Modi sarkar, abki baar bas kar yaar’, ‘Ram naam ki loot hai, loot sake to loot’, and ‘Teeno Modi bhaag gaye, bol gaye saab jhooth…’Throwing an open challenge to PM Narendra Modi to debate over his ‘so-called achievements’, Sidhu said he would retire from politics if he lost in the debate. He said while the USA was finding life on Mars, our regressive government was making its citizens “chowkidar”.
Continuing Modi bashing, he said the PM was very good at distracting people from real issues. “They are now asking votes in the name of soldiers,” he said.
Sidhu said Bansal was the only candidate who could bring about a change in the city, which was evident from his performance as MP for four times.
The Congress leader said the last five years brought disappointment for the people of Chandigarh. MP Kirron Kher spent more time in the film industry and was not concerned about the issues of city residents, he added.
On the occasion, Bansal said already a lot of disappointed BJP leaders had joined the Congress, which proved that the Modi wave in 2014 was nothing but a wave of lies.
