The incident had led to widespread criticism of the BJP for failing to discipline its MLA.

New Delhi, July 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condemned the June 26 incident where BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya beat up a civic official with a cricket bat during a demolition drive in Indore. Akash Vijayvargiya is Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya’s son.

PM Modi, who was attending the BJP Parliamentary Party meet in New Delhi, expressed his anger over the Akash Vijayvargiya incident. He said this sort of behaviour is not acceptable and those who encourage such behaviour should also be sacked.

The prime minister said he did not care whose son Akash is. “I don’t care whose son was behind the incident, it was completely unwarranted and not acceptable,” PM Modi told BJP MPs in the party meeting.

He also slammed those who had started firing guns when Akash Vijayvargiya was released from jail saying that those who went to welcome him should be sacked from the party.

Akash Vijayvargiya (34), a first-time MLA who represents Indore-3 assembly segment, was caught on TV cameras assaulting municipal officer Dhirendra Singh Bais with a cricket bat Wednesday while opposing demolition of a dilapidated house.

A magistrate’s court had sent him in judicial custody till July 11 after his arrest, denying him bail.

However, he was granted bail Saturday by a special court in Bhopal.
