Chandigarh, January 2: A 19-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly raping a three-year-old girl in Sector 52.
The police received a call on Tuesday evening from the victim’s mother following which a woman police official went to the victim’s house.
Sources said the victim’s mother stated that on December 30, her daughter was playing outside the house when she heard her screaming.
The victim’s mother went outside the house and found that her daughter was not there. She then heard screams from her neighbour’s house.
The woman entered the neighbour’s house and found the suspect, Rakesh (19), sexually exploiting her daughter. The woman rescued her and returned home.
The victim’s mother did not disclose it to anyone and when her husband, who was out of station, returned on January 1, she narrated the incident to him after which the police were informed.
A case under Section 376 AB (punishment for rape on woman under 12 years of age) of the IPC and under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against the suspect at the Sector 36 police station. He has been arrested in the case.
