Kangan shuts on slain youth’s maiden death anniversary

Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district remained shut on Wednesday on the maiden death anniversary of a local youth.

All shops and other business establishments were closed while the public transport remained off the roads in the area to pay tribute to Gowhar Ahmad Rather who was killed in police action on this day last year.

The movement of private transport remain unaffected by the shutdown.

Authorities had deployed forces personnel in strength in the area to prevent protests.

Rather (23), who was working as a salesman at a cloth shop in Beehama area of Ganderbal, was killed in police action near central Jamia Masjid, Kangan.

The accused police constable, Gulzar Ahmad Najar, was arrested following an agitation by the locals.
