The Delhi Police has arrested a woman they suspect is responsible for at least five robberies in the national capital. The woman, identified as Rani alias Pinki, followed a modus operandi that involved getting hired as a maid and then drugging her employers. Rani, the police said, targeted the elderly and carried out the robberies on her own.

According to the police, Rani used to get herself hired as a maid at homes inhabited by old-age couples or people. On being hired, Rani stalled police verification by promising her employers that she would offer an identity proof within a few days.

However, just two to three days after being hired, Rani would drug the elderly residents in order to put them to sleep and during the night would burgle the house. She was caught by the Delhi Police after her most recent robbery, which took place in West Delhi’s Janakpuri area.

Following the Janakpuri robbery, the Delhi Police launched a manhunt that involved analysing video footage from 30 CCTV cameras and printing 2,000 wanted fliers. The fliers were distributed across various localities in New Delhi by beat constables.

The police finally managed to trace Rani to her native place of Begusarai in Bihar. Rani was nabbed from Begusarai and the police say that with her arrest, they have solved five robbery cases. Four of these robberies took place in Janakpuri while the fifth is from Vikaspuri.

In all the cases, the police said, Rani got herself hired as a maid, drugged her employers within two or three days and then burgled the homes. The police said that according to their investigations so far, Rani operated on her own and did not have any accomplices.
