DC Kargil reviews traffic management

KARGIL, APRIL 03: As part of its efforts to devise a  feasible traffic management system, the District Administration Kargil today deliberated in detail on the measures for decongestion of the town.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baseer ul Haq Choudhary chaired the meeting of the concerned officers, civil society members and other stakeholders.

Superintendent of Police, Dr Vinod Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sonam Chosjor, President Municipal Committee Kargil Zaheer Hussain, civil and police officers besides representatives of different social and organizations were present in the meeting.

Issues with regard to devising ways and means for decongestion of traffic in the town, rationalisation of parking slots and identification of new parking slots, demolition of unused buildings for expansion of parking, regulation of traffic and its stringent enforcement, strict enforcement of traffic laws, rationalisation of the movement of taxis and vans besides other related issues came up for discussion.

The Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), through a power point presentation,  projected several short term and long term measures suggested by a committee constituted by the DC to recomend ways and means to deal with the issues of traffic congestion in the town.

The measures proposed by the committee included establishment of no parking zones in Main Bazar Kargil and Circular Road, conversion of the existing available unpaid parking at Hussaini Park to paid parking, use of land available in front of Agriculture Office Baroo and Government quarters near DC Office for parking, demolition of old Government buildings for convergence into parking lots, etc.

The DC said that all out efforts will be take to undertake both short term and long term measures to resolve the issue.
