Chandigarh, May 3:Electioneering has picked up momentum in the Sirsa Lok Sabha seat where state Congress president Ashok Tanwar is pitted against former IRS officer Sunita Duggal of the BJP and sitting MP Charanjeet Rori of the INLD besides 17 others.

Randeep Surjewala, national media in charge of the Congress, Naveen Jindal, a former MP from Kurukshetra, and Chander Mohan, a former deputy CM, today campaigned in the Sirsa Lok Sabha seat to give impetus to Tanwar’s poll campaign.Addressing a series of meetings in Peepthala, Ujhana, Kharal, Dharodi, Dhamtan, Danoda and other villages falling under the Narwala Assembly segment, Surjewala called upon people to vote for Tanwar.

Surjewala and his father Shamsher Singh Surjewala have represented the Narwana segment for several terms till 2009 when this Vidhan Sabha seat was reserved for Scheduled Castes.

Jindal campaigned in the Fatehabad Assembly segment while Chander Mohan campaigned in the Dabwali, Tohana and Sirsa Assembly segments to woo voters from his Bishnoi community.

Duggal, on the other hand, addressed a series of public meetings in the Rania Assembly segment of Sirsa and appealed for votes to bring Modi back as Prime Minister.

Addressing villagers in the Sikh belt of Sirsa in chaste Punjabi, Duggal reminded them of the INLD governance from 1999 to 2005 and alleged that corruption, nepotism and the reign of fear ruled the roost when Om Prakash Chautala was at the helm of affairs in the state.

She also reminded people of the Congress government, alleging that the Sirsa region was discriminated against during nine years of Hooda regime.

“Modi ji’s five years in power have seen India’s growth at all levels. The country has emerged as a force to reckon with at the world level. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has also provided clean and honest governance to the state in the past five years. This is the reason why hundreds of youth from Sirsa got jobs though the party does not have a single MLA from this district,” she added.

In a bid to strike an emotional chord with voters, Duggal said that she had resigned from the coveted job of an assistant commissioner of Income Tax merely to serve people of the constituency.

INLD leaders Abhay Singh Chautala and his son Karan Chautala have been seeking votes for Rori while Ajay Chautala and his wife Naina Chautala have addressed several meetings for JJP candidate Nirmal Singh Malhari.
