Government forces on Saturday fired tear gas at the mourners heading home after burying a woman in Sherabad village of Tral area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, leaving a youth injured.

An eye witness said that they were returning home after the burial of a local woman who had passed away earlier today when a forces’ vehicle fired tear gas at them.

“A 23-year-old mourner received head injury after being hit by the tear gas shell. There was no stone-pelting going on. The forces fired without any provocation,” he said, adding that he was immediately shifted to sub-district hospital Tral where he is undergoing treatment.

The incident took place even as a gunfight is underway between militants and the forces at Aripal village, located more than 13 kilometres from Sherabad where the youth was hit.
