A paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper was wounded in a gunfight with the militants in Aripal village of Tral on Saturday, police said.

A police official who asked not to be named as he was not authorised to speak to the media said that a CRPF man was hit by a bullet during the gunfight.

“The injured trooper was shifted to 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar for treatment,” he said, adding that the exchange of fire has stopped at the gunfight site.

“Searches are going on in the area,” he said.

The gunfight broke out early today after the forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation in the area following a tip-off about the presence of militants.

“As the forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight,” said an official.

Witnesses said that the house in which the militants were hiding was set ablaze by the forces.

Further details are awaited.
