Jammu city to get addl 4 lakh gallons of drinking water from next week
JAMMU, JANUARY 05: Secretary, Public Health Engineering (PHE) I&FC, Farooq Ahmad Shah, today said that providing safe drinking water to people is among the top priorities of the Governor’s administration and efforts to make available sufficient supply of potable water to people in Jammu city are bearing the fruits.
The Secretary was interacting with the people conducted after inspection of Filtration Plant and VT pump Station Boria. He also inspected 300 cusecs Tawi lift pump station and old intake pump station Boria and chaired a review meeting of PHE functionaries and interacted with field staff before taking a tour of city outskirts.
He was apprised that Jammu city requires 40 lakh gallon of water day and to meet the shortfall additional 4 lakh gallons of drinking water will be provided to water-scarce areas of Jammu City from next week.
The Secretary was also informed that the water treatment plant Boria and Narwal supplies potable drinking water to more than 2.50 lakh population of surrounding areas of Bathandi, Nawabad, Narwal, Sunjwan and Sainik colony and other areas of Jammu city.
Later, Shah visited Narwal, Malik Market, Bathandi, Nawabad and Sunjwan areas of the city to listen to people’s grievances regarding drinking water problem.
He assured the people that all of their genuine issues would be addressed in a time-bound manner.
The Secretary informed the people that department has always standby tankers and people can utilize their services by reaching them on control Room number 01912439890 and can also contact concerned officers.
He stressed upon the officials to carry out regular inspection of water tanks and perform their duties with added dedication. He said the government is duty bound to provide safe drinking water to the people.
He appealed people to make judicious use of water.
On the occasion, the Secretary stressed upon officials to gear up their men and machinery and speed up work at grass root level so that people get clean drinking water facilities.
Chief Engineer PHE Jammu Ashok Gandotra, Executive Engineers and officers of PHE department accompanied the Secretary.
