Advisor Kumar asks for making united efforts to protect environment

Says human actions caused great damage to nature; we must act now to protect it for future generations

SRINAGAR, JUNE 04: Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar today said that human actions in the past have threatened the environment and damage has already been caused to the nature to a greater extent. But our united efforts can make the situation better thereby contributing to have clean environment and making this world more beautiful to live.

The Advisor who was the chief guest on the occasion said this while addressing the gathering especially the students participating in the World Environment Day – 2019 celebrations being organized by the Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing.

Theme of this year’s World Environment Day was “Beat Air Pollution”.

Financial Commissioner (FC) Finance Arun Mehta was the Guest of Honor on the occasion. Commissioner Secretary Forest M K Dwivedi, Chairman JKPCB Ravi Kesar, Director EE&R B Sidhartha Kumar, CCF Kashmir Farooq Gillani, MD JKSFC Vasu Yadav, other senior officers of Forest & its allied departments, large numbers of students were present during the celebrations.

While discussing the present alarming situation, K Vijay Kumar said in the name of development, we have caused great damage to the environment and have paid heavily for tampering with the nature. Because of our actions, we are experiencing drastic change in the climate and temperature is increasing day by day causing danger to entire human population, he said.

He appealed to the people especially the youth to actively participate in the initiatives undertaken to protect the environment and make this world more beautiful. He urged the youth to play important role by becoming leaders in the community in making people aware of the consequences of the human actions that are threatening the nature and environment.

The Advisor said that it is not an individual who is doing wrong to the nature; we all are equally responsible for reaching at this situation. It is the time to react so that our future generation would not blame us for not letting them breathe clean air and drink clean water and enjoy the beauty of nature as was created.

Highlighting the importance of the nature, K Vijay Kumar said that for everything we are dependent on it whether it is oxygen to breathe, water to drink and food to eat. We should respect the nature for what it is giving to us and must contribute in having clean and green environment for healthy future.

Speaking on the occasion, Financial Commissioner Finance, Arun Mehta also raised the concern saying that we are threatening and damaging what has created us. One cannot deny the fact that we are facing environment crisis and we are in the middle of mass extinction where large number of species are getting die these days, he said.

He further said that the environment in our state is very beautiful and different from other parts of the country. We should work effectively work for conserving the natural resources and the existing natural environment and where possible, already caused damage must be repaired.

Director EE&R B Sidhartha Kumar said that the World Environment Day is celebrated every year, and is the United Nation’s principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment.

K Vijay Kumar also distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions held during the week long celebrations in Srinagar. Two publications of the Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing department were also released by the Advisor Kumar on the occasion.
