Government forces on Sunday morning launched a cordon-and -search- operation (CASO) in orchards of a village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A police official said that a joint team of army, SOG and CRPF personnel laid a siege around the orchards sprawling over hundreds of kanals in Heff Shirmal village of the district.

Soon after the siege, the forces launched a search operation following the inputs about the presence of militant hideouts.

The operation was underway when last reports came. So far there was no report of any contact between the forces and the militants.

Last month, forces killed several militants who were hiding in cave-like hideouts built in orchards and away from human habitations.
