Patiala, March 6: Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta on Wednesday announced Rs 1 lakh cash reward for the 17-member police team and promotion for three cops who had rescued a Zirakpur-based property dealer.
The team led by SP investigation HS Hundal and Shaminder Singh had rescued Sampooran Singh following an encounter with the accused.
The Patiala police on Tuesday evening had rescued the property dealer, who was kidnapped on February 28 from Kalsi village of Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh.
Sampooran was rescued after a shootout between the kidnappers and a combined team of the Patiala police and the Crime branch of Saharanpur.
The police said Sampooran was kidnapped by unidentified people from near Shambu toll barrier on the Ambala-Jalandhar highway.
Patiala SSP Mandeep Sidhu said the case was crucial as the kidnappers had demanded ransom and could have killed the victim.
