Militants on Wednesday exchanged brief gunfire with the government forces at a village of Kralgund in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Quoting reports, news gathering agency reported that the forces were laying siege to Badrapayeen village when they came under attack from the militants.
The forces retaliated, leading to an exchange of fire that lasted nearly five minutes.
Quoting sources, the report said the army has rushed reinforcements to the area to prevent the militants from escaping under the cover of darkness.
The sources, however, said that the militants might have escaped after the initial round of fire, added the report.
