Srinagar, May 8: Clashes erupted in Rathsun village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday after the security forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO).

Reports said that youth took to streets and clashed with the forces after the CASO was launched near Jamia Masjid Rathsun on Wednesday afternoon.

“A group of locals resorted to stone-pelting to disrupt the CASO. The forces lobbed teargas shells to disperse the protesting youth,” said a witness.
Jammu & Kashmir police, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had jointly launched the operation.

An official said that the search operation was launched after specific inputs about the presence of militants there.

The operation was on when this report was being filed.
