Kader Khan died on December 31 (January 1 IST), this year. The veteran actor had been complaining of breathing problems for a while and was shifted to a special ventilator just few days before his death. He breathed his last at a hospital in Canada, with his close family around him.
The Bollywood fraternity mourned the loss of the actor and expressed their grief at his passing. Govinda had tweeted, “RIP Kader Khan Saab. He was not just my “ustaad” but a father figure to me, his midas touch and his aura made every actor he worked with a superstar. The entire film industry and my family deeply mourns this loss and we cannot express the sorrow in words. I pray to God that may his soul rest in peace.#ripkaderkhansaab.”
In response to this, Kader Khan’s son Sarfaraz had shot back, “Please ask Govinda how many times he inquired about his father figure’s health. Has he even bothered to call us even once after my father’s passing away?”
Govinda recently responded to the jibe saying, “He is a kid and I would not like to comment on it. He is a kid. I got know what he said.”
Govinda and Kader Khan had worked together in several films including Dulhe Raja, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Raja Babu and Hero No. 1.
Sarafraz had also said that many from Bollywood had not bothered to call them after Kader Khan had died. “It is the way the Indian film industry has become now. There are too many fragmented camps and loyalties. The out-of-sight-out-of-mind mentality can’t be helped.”
“My father always told us, his sons, not to expect anything from anybody and we grew up with the belief that one must do what is required in life and expect nothing in return,” he added.
”However, the hurt is palpable, specially since not too many from the film industry have bothered to call his sons in Canada even after Kader Khan’s death.There are so many people in the film industry whom my father was close to,” Sarfaraz said
An emotional Sarfaraz spoke to the media after the funeral and recalled Khan’s caring personality and his final moments. “He wasn’t a materialistic person. He was everything to me. Whoever was in trouble, he would go and comfort him and talk to him. He would always tell me to be a bridge between people. Now we only have his words left. He would teach those who did not behave well, as if they were his sons. He did not want to be a burden on anyone. His hands used to shake, and in his last moments, he struggled to kiss me when I asked, but couldn’t.”

Khan had been battling Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a degenerative disease that causes loss of balance, difficulty in walking and dementia.
Kader Khan, who was born in Kabul, made his Bollywood debut with Daag, which had Rajesh Khanna in the lead role. He had an illustrious career that spanned over three decades.
