Kurukshetra, March 8: Seven police personnel, including an Inspector, have been booked for allegedly abducting a Dalit yoga instructor and subjecting him to third-degree torture.

A case has been registered against Inspector Deepender Singh (now posted in Karnal), Sub-Inspector Subhash Chand, Head Constables Lalit Kumar and Nirmaljit Singh, and Constables Naveen, Arvind and Sandeep on the directions of Judicial Magistrate Chetesh Gupta.

The seven have been booked under Sections 364 (abducting in order to murder), 167 (framing an incorrect document to cause injury), 452 (trespass) of the IPC, besides relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Sachin Kumar (26) from Ban village near Ladwa claimed he was forcibly taken away by a CIA team on August 8 last year. “The police team barged into my house, claiming I was in possession of a countrymade weapon,” he claimed.

He was taken to the CIA office in Kurukshetra where he was allegedly thrashed. Kumar said he was released only after his family and villagers approached the police.

DSP Anil Kumar had been asked to investigate.
