Panipat: Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday dedicated “Panipat Pinkathon” organised on International Women’s Day to brave martyrs. More than 50,000 women participated in the event.
“Panipat is a historical land. Over centuries, it has accepted challenges either for the security of the country or to save the girl child,” Khattar told the gathering.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme from here on January 22, 2015. Today, it again created history by organising a mega marathon,” he said.
Khattar attributed the jump in sex ratio from 850 in 2015 to 914 at present to the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme. He applauded the schemes launched by the BJP-led state government for women’s empowerment.
“The government has established 34 colleges for women and increased women recruits in the Police Department. In 2014, the percentage of women in the police force was six. At present, it is 8 per cent and, soon, it will touch 10 per cent,” he said.
