Chandigarh, April 8:The PGI, Chandigarh, has been ranked number two nationally in the medical category in the National Institutional Raking Framework (NIRF). Last year also, it was declared second. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, has been declared first, while Christian Medical College, Vellore, has been declared third. President Ram Nath Kovind today declared the NIRF rankings at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The assessment was conducted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development for 2018-19.
Over 800 medical institutions in the country were assessed on five factors: Teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcome, outreach and inclusivity and public perception. The NIRF rankings were released in nine categories — overall, universities, engineering, colleges, management, pharmacy, medical, architecture and law.
The PGI Director, Prof Jagat Ram, said, “We have improved in facilities offered to the physically challenged. Our medical education and research publication is significantly good. Our graduation degree outcome is ahead of all medical education institutes. However, we need to improve on public perception as well as in patent and surgical innovation.”
He said it took a lot to retain the award and the institute would continue to work on the shortcomings. “Hard work has paid off. We need to work with more vigour and zeal for the top place next year. I congratulate the entire PGI team,” said Amitabh Avasthi, Deputy Director (Administration).
The award was given to the Director and Deputy Director by the Secretary in the HRD Ministry.
