World Red Cross Day Observed atBaramulla
DC urges for capacity building measures among volunteers
BARAMULLA, MAY 08: To commemorate the World Red Cross Day being observed throughout the world on 8th of May, a grand function was today organized at Dak Bungalow Baramulla.
The function which was presided by Deputy Commissioner (DC)Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo was attended by CEO, CMO, NYK Coordinator, DYSSO, other concerned officers, students, volunteers, civil society members and other prominent sections of the society.
This year the theme of the day is “What Do You Love About Red Cross”.
Speaking on the occasion, DC highlighted the importance of the day and said that day reminds us of the services rendered by Red Cross and other volunteers during exigencies. He said that Red Cross Society has evolved as a vibrant movement and exhorted upon various stakeholders to strengthen the movement at different levels.
Emphasizing upon the volunteers to acquaint themselves with effective and vibrant training, DC said that need of the hour is to build the capacities among volunteers so that their services are utilized effectively in the event of any unforeseen or emergent situation.
Earlier, DC flagged off a rally from Showket Ali Stadium which got culminated at Dak Bungalow. The rally marked the participation of volunteers, students, various officers/officials and other sections of the society.
Meanwhile, a painting competition was organized in which about 20 students participated.
