World Red Cross Day celebrated across Jammu division
JAMMU MAY 08: To commemorate the World Red Cross Day, several events were organised today in different parts of Jammu division.
At Jammu, the celebration was held at Red Cross Bhawan Kachi Chawni with flag hoisting ceremony by Divisional Commissioner, who is Chairman IRCS Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, followed by Red Cross pledge and prayer by the gathering led by students of Jain Higher Secondary School, Carmel Convent Government Higher Secondary School, Jourian and Surinsar besides Red Cross volunteers.
The Div Com along with Director Social Welfare, Dr. Bharat Bhushan and other prominent officers and citizens besides members of the Society paid homage to Henry Dunant, founder of Red Cross Society.
On the occasion, cultural events were also presented by the children of NGO Aaradhna-A Ray of Hope, students of Carmel Convent School, Kunjwani, GHSS Saruinsar and GHSS Jourian.
At Udhampur, a grand function by the district administration marked the celebration of World Red Cross day with theme “what do you love about Red Cross” in which Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr Gurvinderjeet Singh was the chief guest.
Earlier, Secretary District Red Cross Society, Dr. V.P Sharma, gave a detailed account of various activities conducted by the society.
During the programme, students from different educational institutions threw light on the philanthropic services of the Red Cross Society.
Among others, President Municipal Council, Udhampur Dr. Yogeshwar Gupta, District Information Officer, Er Sajad Bashir Somberia, District Social Welfare Officer, Sana Khan, Chief Education Officer, Balbir Singh, students and teachers from different schools and prominent citizens were present.
At Poonch, District Development Commissioner, Rahul Yadav, who is also Chairman Red Cross Society, flagged off a students’ rally to mark celebration of birth anniversary of Sir J. Henry Dunant.
The rally culminated at Krisahan Chander Memorial Park where a symposium was organized by the district administration on theme “What Do You Love about Red Cross” in which students from six schools participated and highlighted the importance of Red Cross Society.

At Doda, District Red Cross Society organized a debate, painting competition and cultural program on the theme “What Do You Love About Red Cross” to mark the celebration in which students of various schools participated.
District Development Commissioner, Dr Sagar D Doifode, who was the chief guest on the occasion, flagged off a rally of students which passed throughout the town and culminated at Boys HSS Doda.
Meanwhile, an eye camp was organised at District Hospital by Social Worker Forum in collaboration with Red Cross Society besides a Blood donation camp was also organised.
Amir Suhail a student of Faridia Model HSS Doda was declared as winner in debate, whereas in Painting, Muskan of GHSS and in paper reading Sabit Jamil of CVP HSS was declared first.
AT KISHTWAR, the Day was celebrated at district headquarters to pay tribute to Jean Henry Dunant, District Development Commissioner, Angrez Singh Rana, was the chief guest.
A Red Cross pledge was also taken during the programme by the participants.
Meanwhile, to mark the birth anniversary of Jean Henry Dunant, Red Cross Day was celebrated across the schools of district wherein debate, parade, pledge, cultural programmes on the theme “What Do You Love About Red Cross” were organized.
At REASI, the World Red Cross Day was observed at Girls Higher Secondary School, Reasi in which ZEPO Kuldeep Khajuria hoisted flag of Red Cross Society.
Later, a symposium was also organised in which students of various government and private schools participated and were presented awards.
