Zirakpur, July 9: An elderly watchman-cum-caretaker of a farmhouse on the outskirts of Chhat village, Zirakpur, and a 32-year-old servant of the nearby agriculture land were murdered last night.

The deceased have been identified as Fazuldin (62) and Ajay Kumar (32). The police said Fazuldin was working as a caretaker at the RM Singla farmhouse, while Ajay Kumar used to work on the agriculture land of Rajinder Singh, a resident of Addha Juggiyan village, who had taken the land on lease from Iqbal Singh. The police said the incident came to light this morning when Fazuldin’s son Rajesh Khan, who works as a driver, arrived at the farmhouse to give morning tea to his father and found him missing.

While searching for his father, Rajesh went to the nearby agriculture land where his father used to sleep sometimes with Ajay Kumar.

He was shocked to see Ajay Kumar lying dead on his cot with blood oozing out of his head. He then noticed the body of his father lying in pool a of blood at a distance of 25 metres from the farmhouse.

The police said both victims had been hit on their head with a stone or some blunt object. The police checked the farmhouse, but nothing was found missing, which indicated that robbery was not the motive behind the crime.

The police said Ajay was employed by Rajinder Singh for security as well as for farming. Gurbakshish Singh, DSP, Dera Bassi, said loot or theft did not seem to be the motive behind the crime. Personal enmity could be the reason behind the double murder.  The DSP said, “We have registered a murder case against unidentified assailants and are enquiring from the relatives of the deceased if there was any enmity or family dispute.”
