Traffic cop dragged on bonnet for 200 m

Chandigarh, February 10: A head constable of the UT traffic police had a narrow escape after a motorist drove the car for over 200 meters with the cop holding on to the bonnet today. The traffic cop had tried to challan the driver, for stopping car on the zebra crossing at the Sector 44/45/51/52 light point.

Sources said the motorist, driving a white Maruti Alto bearing a Ludhiana number, stopped the car on the zebra crossing at the traffic light. Head constable Shashi Bhushan, who was on duty at the light point, asked the driver to show his driving licence. However, the driver started arguing. The traffic cop was wearing a body camera with which he clicked the picture of the car.

In the meantime, the traffic light turned green and the driver accelerated. The cop, who was standing in front of the car, in a bid to save himself, jumped on the bonnet.

The motorist drove for about 200 metres and then stopped the car, giving a little time to the traffic cop to get down from the bonnet.

As soon the traffic cop got down, the driver accelerated again and escaped from the spot.

The police were informed about the incident and the vehicle number was provided to them following which a case has been registered at the Sector 34 police station.

Reminder of 2014 incident

In 2014, a traffic constable was hit by a car at the Sectors 17/9 roundabout after he signalled the driver, who was on his mobile, to stop. The car dragged the constable, who jumped on the bonnet, to a distance of about a kilometer. A passerby had also made a video of the incident.
