Chandigarh, March 10: A total of 45,216 children were immunised on Day 1 of the Pulse Polio Campaign under the National Immunisation Day, which is being organised throughout the country from March 10 to 12.
Around 450 polio booths were set up by the Health Department in the city. As many as 11 teams were deployed at transit points.
Approximately 100 Sector supervisors monitored the booth activity for which approx 960 teams of vaccinators were deployed from 9 am to 4 pm.
Lippi Parida, wife of the UT Adviser, visited a pulse polio booth in Sector 8 here and immunised the children. She appealed to all city residents to get their children in the age group of 0-5 years immunised to achieve 100 per cent coverage during the drive.
Special emphasis was laid in the urban slums and villages to ensure that no child is left unimmunised.
Under the campaign, a door-to-door activity will be carried out on March 11 and 12 to ensure that all children are administered polio drops who could not avail the facility at the booths.
An innovative project, ‘Taare Zameen Par – A Night Vigil’, will also be conducted to cover those children who are accompanied by their parents during the day and come to halt at various odd points of the city. To carry out this activity, 5 teams will be deputed from 9 pm to 11 pm. The teams will move around in different parts of the city where homeless people tend to settle down with their children during night hours.
