Chandigarh, April 10:Following the recommendations of a committee during a meeting convened by Panjab University’s Dean University Instructions (DUI) Shankarji Jha on February 2, members of the Syndicate have decided to increase the number of seats in four PU departments.
While five seats have been added to MSc (Microbial Biotechnology), the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) will have 10 more seats each in the LLM evening and morning courses.In both the Centre for Social Works and Police Administration, three seats each have been added to the Master’s course.
Dental institute proposal referred to fee committee
The Syndicate did not take a call on the requirements suggested by a committee that tabled detailed information containing inflow and outflow of income and expenditure from five departments.
While the UBS demanded four faculty members, two classrooms, a seminar hall and a computer lab with 35 computers along with an entrepreneurial lab for the MBA (Entrepreneurship) course, the Statistics Department asked for two regular faculty members for the PG Diploma in Statistics and Data Analysis. The University Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management (UIHTM) asked for two faculty members each for the next academic session.
A proposal from Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital had recommended that 10 of the 15 NRI seats in the BDS course be converted to self-financing seats and admission to the seats be based on merit in NEET. The recommendation has been referred to the fee committee by the Syndicate. No call has been taken on new courses in seven departments, including the School of Communication Studies, the UIET, the UIPS, the PURC and Anthropology.
What else approved
The Syndicate approved that 50 per cent seats of the UIET in BE (Biotechnology) be filled through the PU CET (UG). Candidates from the medical stream will also be allowed to apply for this course. PUMEET (Panjab University Migration Entrance in Engineering Test) for admitting students through migration after BE (first year) will be conducted in the last week of May this year. The eligibility criteria for appearing for the test is a minimum aggregate score of 60 per cent from any engineering institute recognised by the PU and having appeared for the JEE in the previous session. PULEET (Panjab University Lateral Entry Entrance Test) will now be conducted in July 2019.
