The militant killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Ratnipora village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday had facilitated the escape of slain LeT militant commander Naveed Jatt from police custody last year.

A police source said Hilal Ahmad Rather had facilitated the escape of slain LeT militant commander Naveed Jatt.

Rather was one of the accused who helped Jatt to escape on February 6, 2018 from SMHS hospital Srinagar.

Following his escape, Jatt was killed last year on November 28 in Chadoora area of Budgam district.

Soon after the helping Jatt to escape from the hospital, Rather, according to the police source, went missing and joined the militant ranks.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing the Jatt’s escape had indicted Rather along with four other local men in its charge sheet filed in Jammu’s special court on August 3, 2018.
