World Migratory Bird Day: Wildlife Protection Deptt hosts students’ visit to Manda
JAMMU, MAY 11: The Department of Wildlife Protection today organised a visit of school children to Manda Deer Park to mark the celebration of World Migratory Bird Day.
The school children, visiting Manda Zoo in the vicinity of Ramnagar Wildlife sanctuary with beautiful forest and rich bird life around, were made aware regarding birds and the threats faced by them in prevailing environmental scenario.
The message from the Chief Wildlife Warden, J&K, Srinagar, Suresh K. Gupta was conveyed to the children on this occasion. It conveyed that reducing plastic use in day to day activities by children in schools, homes and outdoors and discouraging use of polythene bags and other plastic material in our society would help a great deal in reducing plastic pollution and saving our fast declining bird species, particularly the migratory ones. He stressed upon keeping the marsh lands, water bodies, lakes, ponds clean and free of plastic as they are the major habitats of most of the migratory birds.
The Regional Wildlife Warden region Tahir Shawl, while interacting with school children and teachers disseminated the information about the importance of birds in our eco-systems and saving the species pushed on the drink of extinction due to unwise consumerism, modern lifestyle and anthropogenic pressure.
