Kathua: Micro-Observers briefed about their responsibilities

KATHUA, APRIL 12: District Election Officer Kathua Vikas Kundal today chaired a meeting of the Micro Observers appointed for Parliamentary elections- 2019 scheduled to be held in the district on April 18.

In the meeting, the observers were informed about their duties and responsibilities in the elections.

The DEO said that the micro observers would play a crucial role in ensuring free and fair elections.

The observers were asked to discharge various duties, including checking whether the mock polls had been conducted by the respective presiding/polling officers in presence of the polling agents before the formal voting process begins on the poll day and about the maintenance of necessary documents.

The observers were also informed about what they were supposed to do in the event if an EVM or VVPAT face technical glitch on the day of voting.

Earlier, the DEO visited Boys Higher Secondary School, Kathua where capacity building and training programme for Polling and presiding officers was underway.

The master trainers gave hands-on training to the poll staff on VVPATs, mock poll, sealing of VVPATs for voting, filling of presiding officer diary, timely communication of voting information, pre poll, during poll and post poll arrangements, role and responsibilities of presiding/polling officers, Do’s and Don’ts for polling parties and how to use training material as model kit.

ARO Bani, Joginder Singh Jasrotia, Nodal officer for Training and Manpower Management, Sukhpaul Singh, Deputy DEO, Ashwani Kumar, Nodal Officer for EVM/VVPAT, Sanjeev Rai Gupta, ENT, Abdul Latif and other concerned were present on the occasion.
