Chandigarh, June 12: Chetanya Mittal of Sector 35 made the city proud by securing an all-India rank (AIR) 4 in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) MBBS-2019 entrance exam, the results of which were announced today.
The city topper’s best friend Amritesh Singh Grewal secured AIR 12.The two friends, who have been studying together since pre-nursery, had shared a similar dream — becoming a world-class doctor. The city toppers from Sri Guru Harkrishan Model School, Sector 38, had started preparing for the exams in Class XI.
Chetanya had secured 97.8 per cent marks in CBSE Class XII exams and was among the tricity toppers in medical stream. He plans to take admission in AIIMS and specialise in oncology.
“I was very clear since the very start that I have to clear the AIIMS entrance exam. I gave more attention to physics and chemistry than other sections to make it to AIIMS. I used to take a mock test every day,” shares Chetanya.
His Father Dr Puneet Mittal and Dr Monica Mittal, both are doctors. Chetanya says he drew inspiration from his mother as she struggled a lot in her life.
Apart from studying at his school and a coaching institute, Chetanya used to devote six hours to self-study. His advice to AIIMS aspirants — keep working for two years and don’t think you can achieve everything in a short span. “It is also very important to have fun so that you don’t overexert yourself. You just have to find a way to keep going,” he says.
Amritesh Singh Grewal, a resident of Sector 59, Mohali, said, “For this exam, one should try to devote maximum time to physics as it consumes most of the time. Also, if one lays more stress on physics, chances of getting into the top 50 become high.”
On how he attempted the exam, he said, “I tried to finish biology and chemistry parts as fast as possible so that I have enough time for physics.”
Amritesh had secured 93.8 per cent in medical stream in Class XII CBSE exams. He wants to become a doctor though he has not decided on specialisation yet. He said he used to study for six to eight hours a day.
“Chetanya has been a good support during my preparations for the exam,” he added.
Amritesh’s mother Amrit Kaur and father Devinder Singh are doctors.
“Amritesh and I had a very similar journey as we both couldn’t get better ranks in NEET. I had got the 261st rank and it stressed me out. Whenever I had doubts, I used to consult him and the same went for him. We even played badminton together to release stress. We have attended classes together, sessions together. It seems the journey is going to be very long as we both will be enrolling in AIIMS now,” says Chetanya.
Ishan Gupta of Sri Guru Harkrishan Model School, Sector 38, secured the AIR 14 in the exam. Son of Dr Nalini Gupta, a professor at the PGI, Chandigarh, he wants to take up her mother’s profession. He had scored 98.5 per cent marks in Class XII exams.
Gautam Kaushal, also from the Sector 38 school, bagged AIR 54 in the AIIMS entrance. He aims to become an oncologist. His father is regional manager at an SBI branch in Ludhiana and mother a homemaker. He had scored 96.8 per cent marks in Class XII exams.
