Chandigarh, January 13: A foreign national lodged in Burail Jail in an NDPS case has been booked by Chandigarh Police after it was found that the passport he had furnished was fake.
Festus Benson Onwuchuruba, a resident of the Republic of Burundi, was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) near the grain market in Sector 26, in 2007, while possessing heroin. He was later held guilty in 2012 and sentenced to imprisonment. He had handed over his passport to the NCB after he was arrested. The NCB further handed over the passport to the Foreigner Registration Office (FRO) branch of the UT police. The FRO branch verified the passport and found it to be fake, following which Sub-Inspector Tulsi Ram, in-charge of the FRO branch, submitted a police complaint. After taking a legal opinion, the UT police registered a case under Sections 465 (punishment for forgery) and 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc) of the IPC against the accused at the Sector 39 police station.
