Jammu, September 14: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has said he did more work in the past one year than any elected governor.
Speaking at an event in Kathua on Saturday, Malik said, “In the eyes of the country, a Governor is a person who plays golf and does nothing for the public. He or she just rests during their governorship. But the amount of work that we have done in the past 1 year, I don’t think even an elected government does that much work.”
Jammu and Kashmir was placed under Governor’s rule last year after BJP pulled out of the coalition government with PDP. Months later the state was put under President’s rule.
On August 5, the Centre abrogated Article 370 that granted special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. With the J&K Reoganisation Bill, the Centre has now divided Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.
Jammu and Kashmir has since been put under an unprecedented lockdown under the administration of Satya Pal Malik.
Satya Pal Malik had recently said that he will engage with members of civil society group and teachers but won’t interact with separatists and mainstream politicians.
Defending the detention and house arrest of top Kashmiri leaders and politicians, Satya Pal Malik had recently said that those who politicians who are detained for long terms become the tallest of leaders.
More than 50 leaders are detained since August 5, including former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. Taking a sarcastic dig at the politicians, the governor said, “The one who stays detained the longest, becomes the tallest leader. If they face any problem, they can contact me and we will help provide facilities.”
