New Delhi, October 14: The Interpol on Monday rejected beleaguered diamantaire Nirav Modi’s sister’s plea challenging the Red Corner notice issued against her.
Purvi Modi had filed the plea against Indian agencies-Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate-for the charges against her. However, Interpol has rejected her plea.
A similar plea has been filed by Nirav Modi’s brothers, Nehal and Neeshal Modi.
Sources have told India Today TV that Interpol is going through the verification process and the Red Corner notice will only be visible to police agencies of concerned countries till the process is complete.
The clarification comes after Red Corner notices against Nirav Modi’s brothers vanished from Interpol’s website. Interpol has clarified that the notices have not been withdrawn.
Nirav Modi, his uncle Mehul Choksi and other family members are under the scanner of the Indian agencies for their involvment in the Rs 14,000 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam.
The CBI is probing criminal charges against all the PNB accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate is investigating the money trail in the multi-billion dollar scam. It has seized a number of foreign assets belonging to Modi, Choksi and other family members.
Both CBI and ED had earlier requested Interpol to issue notices against the people involved in the PNB scam including Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi, Aditya Nanavati, Mihir Bhansali. Some of the Red Corner notices are still visible on the website.
The notices against Nirav Modi, his brother Neeshal and their aide Subhash Parab were opened last year. The notice against Purvi Modi was also issued in September 2018.
Both ED and CBI are seeking the extradition of Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and other key accused in the PNB scam.
