Deputy Commissioner reviews functioning of RDD, modalities for Back to Village initiative

KATHUA, JUNE 14: Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Vikas Kundal, today chaired a meeting with senior officers of Rural Development Department to review the functioning and progress achieved under various flagship schemes and development programmes in the district.

The DC also discussed the modalities for implementation of recently announced ‘Back to Village’ programme in the district.

The meeting was attended by ADDC, Dr. Shubra Sharma, ACD, Sukhpal Singh, Executive Engineer of REW, BDOs, AEEs, Program Officer, Technical Assistants and other senior officers of the concerned department.

The DC took stock of pending MGNREGA works since 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 and directed the BDOs to ensure completion of these works within two days. He also reviewed block wise PDs generated under PMAY-G for the FY 2017-18 & 2018-19. He instructed the concerned to generate FTO on time so that timely payments can be made to the job card holders.

The meeting also discussed several measures to be taken up for implementation of ‘Back to Village’ program in all Panchayats of the district.

The main objective of the programme is to assess the condition of the villages and the inhabitants for further devising a plan for the holistic socio-economic upliftment of the villagers, DC added.   

Under the programme, Panchayats shall be visited by the Gazetted Officers and each officer shall spend a minimum of 2 days, which includes one night, in the allocated Panchayat.

The DC said that the officers will interact with the people at Panchayat-level and take a first-hand account of the issues and problems of the people. He asked the officers to finalize the schedule of the program, design, content of the program and also decide upon the activities to be undertaken during the Programme by various departments, including Rural Development, Education, Health, Power Development, Agriculture and allied sectors.
