New Delhi: The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) elections were held amid tension at Rakabganj Gurdwara on Friday.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa was elected the DSGMC president unopposed. He is also a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal and a member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly from Rajouri Garden after winning on a BJP ticket in the 2017 bypoll. Senior vice president Ranjeet Kaur, vice president Kulwant Singh Bat, general secretary Harmeet Singh Kalka and general secretary Harvinder Singh KP were also elected unopposed.
Delhi Minority Commission member Daljeet Singh Khalsa had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court to put on hold the DSGMC elections due to corruption charges against Manjit Singh GK. But, the court heard the petition and disposed it of, paving the way for elections.
Sirsa said: “To celebrate 550 years of Guru Nanak Dev’s birthday, the DSGMC has decided to invite five known personalities related to religious activities from around the world and appoint them associate members. A general house request has been forwarded in this regard and has been accepted by the DSGMC members.”
He said Guru Harkrishan Hospital in Gurdwara Bala Sahib would be now looked after by a new committee comprising five renowned doctors and six well-known personalities, including two DSGMC members. “This request has also been accepted by the DSGMC members.”
The 10 executive body members elected on friday are: Harinderpal Singh, MPS Chadha, Paramjit Chandowk, Kuldeep Sahney, Jagdeep Kahlon, Bhupinder Bhullar, Vikram Rohini, Malkinder Singh, Jitender Sahney and Paramjit Rana.
