Two drug peddlers held, brown sugar worth 20 lakh recovered in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 16: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday arrested two drug peddlers and recovered brown sugar worth Rs 20 lakh in north Kashmir district of Bandipora.

Official sources said that following specific information about transportation of drugs, a checkpoint was established in Sumbal in Bandipora. “Police intercepted two persons at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 900 grams of Brown Sugar,” they said.

Both the accused, identified as Nazir Ahmad Dar and Mohammad Afzal, were immediately taken into custody. The cost of contraband seized in the international market is over Rs 20 lakh.

“Police have registered a case and initiated investigation to nab other people involved in drug trafficking,” they said, adding both the accused are being questioned and more arrests could happen in the coming days.
