Ludhiana: Cracking the whip over the laxity shown in the Ludhiana gangrape case, Punjab Police today dismissed ASI Vidya Rattan, who was initially suspended for dereliction, suspended SI Jarnail Singh and also shifted the SHO of Dakha police station, Rajan Parminder, to the Police Lines.

DIG, Ludhiana Range, Ranbir Singh Khatra said zero tolerance was shown to the cops who “dealt poorly with the complaint of kidnapping of a girl and a boy, coupled with a ransom call at Issewal village”.

Khatra said when a friend of the boy, who was held captive with his female friend by the six accused on Saturday night, reached the police station, the ASI was lax and careless. SI Jarnail Singh, the additional SHO, was suspended for not taking action despite knowing that the ASI was lax.

Though the SHO claimed  he was on casual leave, “being the head, it was his duty to keep tabs on the staff”, DIG Khatra asserted.

He said taking a cue from orders of the Juvenile Justice Board, they planned to move an application to consider one of the six accused, who is more than 17 years old, to be treated as an adult.
