Tulip Garden In Sanasar Opens For Tourists

Jammu: Surrounded by snow clad hills with Nathatop in its backdrop, Tulip Garden in Sanasar area of Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir is all set to welcome the visitors after it was thrown open for them.

Located nearly 130-kilometres from here, Tulip Garden at Sanasar became famous after Kashmir’s Tulip Garden, as the people, who cannot visit to the Valley, can enjoy the majestic beauty of high breed Tulip bulbs planted in the garden located adjacent to Sanasar Lake.

The garden was thrown open yesterday by the Director Floriculture, Jammu, Babila Rakwal with the department of Directorate of Tourism Jammu.

“The garden has been thrown open for general public and we hope that lot many people will visit the place and enjoy it’s beauty especially when the Tulip bulbs are in full bloom,” said a senior Floriculture officer.

They said that high breed Tulips are imported every year and the staff of the Floriculture Department works hard to maintain the garden before it is thrown open for the visitors.

Assistant Floriculture Officer, Pawan Kumar said, “The life of Tulips is very short and by May first week or mid, the bulbs will go.”

This year high breed bulbs including Mountain High (Red), Flaming Agrass (White), Salmon Impression (Pink) and Oxford Wonder (Yellow) have been planted.

“The Tulip Garden in Sanasar is spread in the area of four kanals,” he said and added that due to heavy snow, the opening delayed for few days.

In June, harvesting process will begin and thereafter in October-November, plantation of buds and bed preparation will take place, said the officer.

He further said that in January germination starts and by March, the bulbs get ready and blooms completely.

“The Tulip flowers require temperature around 10 degrees for longer life and between the normal temperature, the bulbs stays more fresh,” he maintained and added that if the weather will not play spoilsport, the garden will stay by mid of May.

Landscaping Officer, Sunil Singh with his team also played his role in nurturing the garden.

Tulip, which has its origin in Persia (Iran), was introduced in Europe in 17th century, where it had been developed in different varieties. Holland is the largest producer of tulips.
