Kaithal:Usually people are wary of the presence of policemen, but a constable of Haryana Police has set high standards in personal conduct and social service.
Constable Sunil Sandhu, at present posted in the Kaithal Police Lines, escorts criminals to court for hearings. He is also devoted to social service and never hesitates from helping anyone in distress. Recently, he was in news for helping Ankita (12), who was suffering from a serious eye ailment.Sunil, a resident of Barta village in the district, goes from school to school collecting spare clothes from children and distribute them among needy people in slums and brick-kiln workers. He went to a brick-kiln at Garhi Padla village in Kaithal recently and noticed Ankita. Her father Ashok, who works there as a labourer, told him that his daughter was nearly blind and could see very little from only one eye. She urgently needed an eye surgery.
Sunil took Ankita to local eye surgeon Deepak Garg, owner of Garg Eye and Maternity Hospital here, who operated upon her and restored the sight in her one eye. The doctor promised to perform the surgery on the second eye after some time. Sunil said that Dr Garg did not charge any fee for the operation. At the same time, Sunil paid some money to Ankita’s father from his own pocket to provide her a good diet.
Sunil, who had served in the security of HPCC president Ashok Tanwar for a couple of years, says that during the past few years he had admitted over 12 injured persons to various hospitals. To instill a feeling of patriotism among children, he had distributed thousands of national flags among them. He motivates people to plant saplings to check pollution. The Commissioner of Karnal division had honoured him during the Independence Day function in Kaithal.
