Poppy crop on 100 kanals of land in the horticultural fields and common land was also destroyed.

PULWAMA, MAY 17: Acting tough against the poppy cultivation, district administration Pulwama today arrested scores of farmers who were involved in illegal cultivation of poppy in their fields.

 In this regard, special teams led by Executive Magistrates   in all the eight Tehsils of the district today launched a major crackdown against the poppy cultivators.

More than 100 arrest warrants were issued whereas most of the offenders were immediately arrested and sent to Correctional Home for seven days. The offenders have been arrested under section 107/151 of CrPC.

During the drive,   a poppy crop on 100 kanals of land in the horticultural fields and common land was also destroyed.

The drive is being supervised by District Magistrate  Dr Syed Abid Rashid Shah, who reiterated his commitment of zero tolerance towards the individuals found involved in poppy cultivation.

Pertinently, engaging in production, manufacturing, possession, sale, purchase, transportation, warehousing, concealment, use or consumption, import interstate, export interstate of such drugs/substances is illegal under law under section 18 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.
