On the third consecutive day of curfew in the town, Additional District Administration and Bhadarwah Municipal Committee (BMC) on Saturday launched a massive anti-encroachment drive in various areas in the picturesque town and removed benches, tables, iron grills, boards, other temporary structures and demolished temporary sheds and tripals.
Tehsildar Bhadarwah Zeshan Tahir said the decision was taken keeping in view the law and order problem and huge traffic jam witnessed in these areas because of the illegal encroachment.
The civic body along with additional district administration initiated action and demolished several temporary structures besides issuing notices to owners of various other shops,” he said.
The encroachment and traffic congestion have not only been causing inconvenience to the passers-by and residents but presenting a filthy look in an area known for its scenic beauty and tourist attraction, Tehsildar said.
The action was taken at Seri Bazaar, Jai Road, Ganpat Bazaar, Takia Chowk, Sadar Bazaar, Laxmi Narayan Chowk, Jamia Masjid locality and Pasri Bus Stand.
“This drive was launched in public Interest. The authorities had kept ignoring large scale violations, rampant illegal constructions, unauthorised parking and traffic congestion in the town,” said Executive Officer BMC Mohd Ashraf Zargar.
“We removed more than 100 illegal temporary structures, as these were not only a nuisance for the common public but also were creating law and order problem day in and out,” EO added saying that the drive will continue in the coming days as well.
Earlier DDC Doda Dr Sagar Dattaray Doifode had assured people in a grievance redressal meeting that strict action will be initiated against the violators and encroachers in the town.
