Srinagar, January 21: The doctor attending to the woman from Kupwara district, who was forced to give birth to a baby on a road after she was refused admission in Government LD Maternity Hospital in Srinagar, has been found guilty of negligence.

In its report to Principal Medical College, Srinagar, the three-member inquiry committee has accused the “doctor of going against the standard operating procedure (SOP) for referral by not admitting the patient”.

The baby had died soon after the birth.

Suraya, hailing from remote and hilly Mooree village, around 15-kilometers away from Kupwara town in north Kashmir, was forced to deliver on the roadside after the doctor turned her away by not admitting her in the hospital last Thursday.

The family members of the victim have lodged a complaint with the police in Srinagar, which is waiting for the outcome of the official inquiry to register an FIR.
