Five persons have been arrested for assaulting a Kashmiri shawl trader in West Bengal’s Nadia district, police said on Thursday.

Jawed Ahmed Khan, 27, was assaulted by a mob in Taherpur area on February 18, a police officer said.

He said Khan’s safety was being ensured.

Khan, a resident of Soibugh area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, had been visiting the state for past nearly a decade.

The attack took place four days after a suicide bomber killed 40 CRPF troopers in Kashmir.
